G. Greene Construction recently completed Phase I of the Main 8 Cardiology Department Renovation. This project is being performed in five phases due to the unit remaining operational throughout construction.  Phase I consisted of a 3,800 S/F renovation that included the conversion of five inpatient rooms into three Cardiac ICU patient rooms. These new patient rooms will accommodate State-of-the-Art “Trumpf Booms” that are essential to providing the doctors with more versatility within the rooms. The Main 8 floor is surrounded by existing CICU spaces and occupied inpatient units. Close coordination with the design team and hospital staff allowed G. Greene to complete this phase sooner than expected. The next five phases, encompassing over 5,500 S/F, will include new nurses’ stations, RN charting rooms, a new locker room, and patient room upgrades for handicap accessibility. At the start of each phase G. Greene, Children’s Hospital Staff and users, will meet to establish temporary areas that will allow each unit to function safely and uninterrupted.  This renovation is scheduled to be completed by March, 2011.

G. Greene is to be commended for the extra effort that was necessary to complete the detailed work in such a confined and restricted environment. Their goal throughout the project was to keep the environment safe for patients and staff.
