G. Greene recently completed over 4,000 S/F of renovations to the UMass Memorial Medical Center NICU department. The project was broken up into 5 phases in order to ensure that the department could remain operational throughout construction. By working in phases the G. Greene team was able to construct temporary spaces for the staff and patients to use while they completed the renovations in each of the areas around the floor. Work included demolition of existing spaces to create 7 infant pods, a nurse’s station, 4 call rooms, expansion of the women’s locker room and the relocation of the men’s locker room. In addition, new finishes were installed throughout the corridors within the department. G. Greene worked closely with the hospital staff on a daily basis to ensure that there were minimal noise disturbances to the abutting spaces which included a maternity ward that had to remain functional 24 hours a day. In order to keep the site clean and safe, specific safety guidelines and air filtering precautions were instituted prior to construction.

G. Greene is to be commended for the extra effort that was necessary to complete the detailed work in such a confined and restricted environment. Their goal throughout the project was to keep the environment safe for patients and staff.
