Harvard Medical School: 641-643 Huntington Avenue

This summer G. Greene will begin a gut renovation to Harvard Medical School’s 641-643 Huntington Avenue locations.  Both buildings, which currently house administrative offices, are four stories and total over 29,000 S/F.   The wood framed masonry façade is being restored with new windows as well as a comprehensive upgrade to the entire roofing system. In addition, new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems will be added.  Renovations to the interior of the building will include a fit-out of the existing office spaces and will be occupied by the Department of Social Medicine. In addition an elevator is being installed to provide service in both buildings. Site improvements to the surrounding areas will include new paving and landscaping.
This project has been designated as LEED Gold Certified under the United States Green Building Council’s rating system.  G. Greene will follow the appropriate process throughout construction and will meet the certification credit requirements in order to attain the gold status. The project will be completed in approximately 10-12 months.

Perkins School for the Blind: Elevator Installation

In June, G. Greene Construction will begin the installation of a 3-stop elevator within the Howe Building located on the Perkins School for the Blind campus. The scope of work will also entail constructing permanent bypass structures which will allow for emergency egress during the installation of the elevator.  To minimize the impact on the student body and administration within the building, work involving loud noises will occur during the 3rd shift.  This phased project is scheduled to be completed in November 2008.

It seems that we always ask the unthinkable of G. Greene Construction, in terms of meeting our very, very demanding schedule, and they never fail to achieve our goals – both with regard to schedule and quality of workmanship.
