Children's Hospital Boston: Groundbreaking for Kent Street Family House Restoration

On May 2, Children’s Hospital Boston held a groundbreaking ceremony in Brookline, MA, at the site of the Kent Street Family House Restoration. This project will increase the quality and availability of affordable patient family housing for the Hospital. Employees from Children’s Hospital and G. Greene Construction were on hand for the event, as well as many of the volunteer fundraisers and donors whose efforts generated a substantial amount of support for this project. One of the groups in attendance was The Next Generation Developers Task Force whose efforts have helped raise over $4 million towards the project’s goal of $10 million. President and CEO of Children’s Hospital Boston, Dr. James Mandell spoke about the significance of the project and the importance of providing a safe and caring environment for children and their families.
G. Greene began the extensive restoration of The Kent Street House in early February. The project entails an 8,000 S/F gut renovation to an existing Victorian residential home as well as constructing an addition that will house a 4-stop elevator. The house is being transformed into a home away from home for families whose children are seeking medical treatments at the nearby Children’s Hospital. It is being restored with 21st century amenities, 22 bedrooms, a large kitchen, common room and a meditation garden. The project is scheduled to be completed by February 2009.

G. Greene is to be commended for the extra effort that was necessary to complete the detailed work in such a confined and restricted environment. Their goal throughout the project was to keep the environment safe for patients and staff.
