Fixed Asset Accountant

The Fixed Asset Accountant contributes to the Company’s success by adhering to company protocol regarding asset tracking. The position is accountable for the recording of newly acquired fixed assets, tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation and accounting for the disposition of assets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recording of fixed assets
  • Recommend to management any updates to accounting policies related to fixed assets
  • Assign asset numbers to fixed assets
  • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system
  • Reconcile the balance in the fixed assets subsidiary ledger to the general ledger
  • Calculate depreciation of all fixed assets
  • Review and update the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation
  • Investigate the obsolescence of fixed assets
  • Register, title, permit & license all vehicles and eligible equipment along with notifying insurance company of additions and deletions
  • Conduct physical counts of fixed assets
  • Recommend to management whether fixed assets should be disposed of
  • Conduct analysis of fixed assets as requested by management
  • Prepare audit schedules of fixed assets and assist auditors in their inquiries
  • Prepare and analyze property tax and returns
  • Represent the company during any audits by any governmental authority
  • Track company expenditures of fixed assets in comparison to the capital budget
  • Prepare and invoice all intercompany billings regarding equipment, fleet, small tools & property
  • Maintain & monitor loans
  • Complete & timely file governmental or agency reports or filings regarding fixed assets
  • Update physical file of each fixed asset with all supporting documentation
  • Receive and code invoices for fixed asset purchases in accordance with the capitalization policy
  • Record new capital leases and prepare amortization schedules
  • Assist with system upgrades for fixed asset software and actively participate on special projects

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in asset accounting
  • Familiarity with construction accounting software
  • Detail oriented individual with analytical skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Good communication skills to interact with all levels of management
  • Ability to multi-task
