Project Accountant

The Project Accountant contributes to the Company’s success by adhering to company protocol regarding project finances.  Ensures that all estimated construction costs are tracked and managed.  Is an integral part of the success of a project by being responsible for the compliance, reporting and other duties related to the project.

Status:             Full time exempt position

Reports to:      Chief Financial Officer

Supervises:     None

RESPONSIBILITIES:

PROJECT KICKOFF

  • Review project contract(s), identify/resolve issues, confirm compliance (e.g. with insurance requirements), set up billing, project budget and other systems as needed
  • Set up and maintain project-related records

ASSET & COST CONTROL

  • Review account totals related to proper coding of project revenue and expenses
  • Authorize the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts
  • Track and monitor project assets (tools, vehicles and equipment locations)
  • Obtain waivers/releases from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Update cost to complete (CTC) and notify Project team and management of potential cost overruns
  • Assist the Corporate Risk Manager in the administration of a Contractor Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP) and/or monitor the Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP)

BILLING & COLLECTIONS

  • Create or approve all project-related billings to customers (AIA/SOV/progress billing, time & materials, cost plus, change orders)
  • Report to management on any opportunities for additional billings
  • Confer with Project Managers regarding unpaid contract billings
  • Investigate all project expenses not billed to customers; minimize underbillings
  • Approve the write-off of any project-related billings that cannot be billed to or collected from customers
  • File pre-liens, liens, releases/waivers
  • Compile company and subcontractor certified payrolls report and file with appropriate authority

ANALYSIS & REPORTING

  • Report on project profitability (budget vs. actual) to CFO
  • Report to CFO regarding the remaining funding available for projects
  • Monitor and track the cash position of the project
  • Create and submit government reports
  • Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the WIP (Work in Progress) Report
  • Ad hoc reporting as needed

COLLABORATION

  • Act as liaison among internal (Estimating, Project Manager, Field Personnel, and Accounting) and external (suppliers, subcontractors, customers) team members to assist in the successful completion of the project
  • Occasional project site visits

PROJECT CLOSE-OUT

  • Close out project accounts upon project completion
  • Job debriefs prepare materials in advance of, attend, record results of into the job log

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in construction cost accounting
  • Familiarity with construction accounting software
  • Detail oriented individual with analytical skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Good communication skills to interact with all levels of management
  • Ability to multi-task
