Boston University brought G. Greene Construction in to deliver a targeted renovation of the Derosa Lab on the second floor of the Metcalf building. The project scope zeroed in on two zones: Lab 292, the primary research space, and Lab Support 284. The lab required a full fume hood replacement, MEP reconfiguration, new lab scavenger exhausts, and the installation of a glovebox system. We also tackled the chiller replacement in Mechanical Room 289.

The complexity of this project came down to MEP coordination. We initiated virtual submittal reviews to reduce review time and speed up the workflow. Our team collaborated with Boston’s Inspectional Services to clarify expectations upfront, which allowed us to move quickly through final approvals.
The sub deliveries, especially the fume hoods, were critical. We stayed in close contact with vendors to keep fabrication and delivery timelines on track.
Coordinating the delivery and installation of the fume hoods was the make-or-break moment of this build. Delays at this stage could have pushed back the entire schedule. We engaged the subcontractor at every checkpoint.
For the professor leading this research, getting into the space was long overdue. With the new infrastructure in place, including updated fume hoods and lab support systems, their team is now fully operational in a modern, high-performance research environment.
