Ophthalmology Administration Renovation

Boston Children’s Hospital

Project Overview

Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) partnered with G. Greene Construction to renovate 9,000 square feet on the sixth floor of their Autumn Street building. The goal was to relocate and upgrade their Ophthalmology Administration department.

BCH needed new offices and conference rooms, expanded research spaces, and updated infrastructure that met current codes and supported clinical functions.

Our team handled everything from permit filings and procurement to full-time site coordination. We managed subcontractors and led OAC meetings.

The HVAC baseline testing helped us get ahead of final balancing. It was a high-stakes renovation inside an active hospital, with no margin for system disruption.

Solutions

Two challenges nearly stalled the schedule.

  • First, the return piping loop was corroded beyond repair. With no option to tie into existing lines, we replaced the entire system within four weeks. That meant weekend work and on-site coordination sessions.
  • Second, BCH’s Project Mosaic demanded full focus from their IT department. We had to fast-track all tele/data tasks to align with their activation window.

Results

We delivered ahead of schedule, which triggered a domino effect: the newly completed 6th floor now houses teams previously located in Cardiology and Fegan 4, unlocking GGC’s next two phases. That momentum matters, especially when multiple projects depend on the success of one.
