Holden Municipal Light Department
Description
G. Greene Civil and Utility division upgraded Holden Municipal Light Department’s electrical substation. The scope of work included installation of drilled shaft foundations, precast manholes, below grade conduit, transformer drainage pipe with precast oil water separator tank and pumping chamber. The civil division also installed cast in place concrete piers, footings and containment walls. Lastly, the crew installed a transformer containment pit with a geocomposite liner and a CMU blast wall. Work was completed with site grading and asphalt paving.
Approach
- Sequenced the installation of the caissons in order to keep substation functional
- Sequenced the installation of the geocomposite liners in order to maintain functionality of transformers
- Phased replacement of 115kV transformers and switchgear
Results
- Demolished existing foundations
- Installed drilled shaft foundations, precast manholes
- Installed below grade conduit and new grounding grid
- Finished site grading and new asphalt access road
