The Broad Institute
Description
Upgrading the existing fire alarm system from an EST-3 system to an EST-4 system. The work required a one for one replacement of all existing initiating fire alarm devices in the entire building. Two conjoining building fire alarm systems were interconnected to the new head end equipment. Existing smoke control systems were modified to transfer smoke control functions from the non-compliant Building Automation System to the new Fire Alarm System.
Approach
- This work required an immense amount of coordination with the occupants, client, engineer, building owner and maintenance staff in order to ensure that the ongoing research went uninterrupted
- Coordinate interim life safety plan while fire alarm offline
Results
- Installed writing to smoke control locations at the penthouse
- Replaced devices, painted and patched, at each level
- Performed Functional Testing and third-party inspection
